Geno Smith faced criticism after returning to the game despite suffering a "dirty hit" during Thursday's match against the Denver Broncos. The Las Vegas Raiders quarterback was sacked up to five times in the first half and went down awkwardly after a tackle by Nik Bonitto, injuring his leg on what seemed like a minor scramble.
Smith spent time in the medical tent and tested his knee on the sideline by light jogging while trainers assessed his condition. Although injured, he returned to the field to try and finish the game as the Raiders trailed by only three points.
Nik Bonitto, responsible for the hit, was seen watching Smith's injury without immediate reaction. With Smith out, Kenny Pickett stepped in as quarterback. Pickett is currently the only fully healthy QB on the roster, as Cam Miller remains on the practice squad and Aidan O’Connell is on injured reserve.
“Take Geno Smith out of the game, please,” one person wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Another user pointed out that Smith has thrown 12 interceptions this season, the most in the league.
The Raiders bet on Smith’s veteran experience to stabilize their offense during the offseason. However, at 2-6 before the Broncos game, Smith has yet to find consistent success this year.
Summary: Despite a tough start to the season and a controversial injury, Geno Smith showed resilience by returning to the game, while the Raiders continue to struggle with offensive consistency.
