“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.”
Angus Provost Craig Fotheringham spoke about Remembrance Sunday on 9 November, when services and parades will be held across Angus to honor those who gave their lives defending our freedoms.
He encouraged everyone who can to take some time to join their community at these events and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
For those unable to attend, he urged taking a quiet moment alone or with family and friends to remember the fallen.
Tuesday, 11 November, is Armistice Day, offering another chance to pay respects. At 11am, wherever you are, it is important to stop for two minutes of silence to honor the bravery and selflessness of our Armed Services.
“We must and will remember them.”
Fotheringham also expressed gratitude to current service men and women serving both locally and abroad, pledging continued support as they protect the country.
He noted that recent years have been marked by increasing uncertainty, with the harsh realities of war brought to us through various media channels.
Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day call us to honor those who sacrificed for freedom, reflect quietly, and support current service members amid ongoing global challenges.
