Significant updates on North Quays: Train station, Bridge, Clock Tower - News - Waterford News & Star

North Quays Progress Update

Visible advancements are being made on the North Quays development, particularly around the Sustainable Transport Bridge, the new train station, and the South Quays Plaza near the Clock Tower.

Train Station Development

The front elevation of the train station is now clearly visible following the removal of scaffolding. Work on the northern plaza, which will serve bus and car drop-off needs and provide access to the new southeast greenway, is progressing well with curbs and paving being installed.

The station's structural work will be completed in the coming months, including roofing, paving, rendering, and interior fit-out. However, extensive mechanical and electrical installations remain before full completion.

“The station can only open once it passes through all the independent safety and compliance checks, and those will continue all through 2026 and into 2027.”

— Waterford Council Senior Engineer Sean Dobbs

The station is expected to open in 2027.

Sustainable Transport Bridge

The sustainable transport bridge is now fully installed, with the opening spans functioning correctly. BAM continues to operate the spans regularly.

Upcoming work will focus on finishing details such as the surfacing, glass panels, railings, lighting, seating, and architectural elements.

Summary

The North Quays development is steadily advancing, with key infrastructures like the train station and sustainable bridge nearing completion, aiming for full operation by 2027.
