Before saying goodbye to the hit Netflix show, actor David Harbour walks the streets of New York with Esquire Spain. A version of this article was published in the November 2025 issue of Esquire Spain magazine.
On November 26, Netflix’s Stranger Things will begin its highly anticipated three-part farewell. The first four episodes of season eight will release on Thanksgiving Day, followed by three more episodes on Christmas Day. The finale will air on New Year’s Eve, marking the end of the streaming platform’s most successful original series.
This finale will conclude a decade-long journey for Harbour, who has gained international recognition for his role as Hawkins, Indiana's police chief Jim Hopper.
While the latter half of 2025 was expected to bring significant media focus on Harbour due to the show's conclusion, a surprise album that dropped last week dramatically increased the attention on him.
In September, before the release of the album and the final season, Esquire Spain writer Rafael Sánchez Casademont interviewed Harbour about his career, the bittersweet end of Stranger Things, and his future plans. The interview has been edited for length and clarity.
"When I was a kid it was this magical place. I grew up about an hour outside the city, in a suburban town in Westchester."
Harbour's reflections reveal his deep personal connection to the city where he now walks as the show that defined much of his career wraps up.
Author's summary: David Harbour shares insights on ending Stranger Things, his strong ties to New York, and how unexpected moments have reshaped his career spotlight in 2025.
