David Taylor MP holds meeting with Home Secretary about crime in Hemel

Hemel Hempstead MP David Taylor met with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to address rising crime and antisocial behaviour in the town, following a number of major police operations across Hertfordshire.

Request for Inclusion in Respect Order Pilot

During the discussion, Taylor called for Hemel Hempstead to become one of the pilot areas for the Government’s new Respect Orders, designed to give police greater authority to deal with repeat offenders and persistent public nuisances.

“Our community is a place to be proud of, but residents tell me antisocial behaviour continues to blight parts of Hemel Hempstead, and residents have had enough. I made it clear to the Home Secretary that Hemel should be at the front of the queue for the Respect Order pilot so we can take tougher action against those who make life miserable for others.”

Focus on Local Partnerships

The MP highlighted the importance of collaboration between councils, housing associations, and law enforcement, especially after recent enforcement drives in the area.

“Recent major operations by Hertfordshire Police have shown what can be achieved when agencies work together. That joined-up approach is essential if we’re to make lasting progress in tackling crime and restoring confidence in our community.”

Tribute to Local Police

Taylor praised Hertfordshire Police for their continuous professionalism and commitment in safeguarding residents.

“Our officers do an outstanding job under immense pressure.”

Author’s Summary
