Former NFL star Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to the United States to stand trial for an attempted murder connected with a shooting outside a Miami boxing event in May, according to Miami police.
Authorities confirmed on Thursday afternoon that the 37-year-old former wide receiver is currently being held in Essex County, New Jersey, while awaiting further extradition to Miami-Dade County.
The timeline of his apprehension and transfer remains unclear. Miami police emphasized ongoing collaboration with multiple agencies.
“This is just another example of the relentless work and dedication of Miami Police detectives, working closely with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office and U.S. Marshals to identify and arrest those who commit crimes in the City of Miami,” police said in a statement.
Brown faces attempted murder charges following a May 16 altercation during a boxing event hosted by influencer Adin Ross. His social media activity indicated that he had been staying in Dubai for several months before his arrest.
When an arrest warrant was issued in June, his attorney obtained a $10,000 bond and arranged for house arrest, but Brown failed to surrender to authorities. Police had not previously confirmed whether they would pursue his extradition.
Antonio Brown was returned from Dubai to the US to stand trial for an attempted murder linked to a Miami shooting, following months of evading surrender.
