Elder Gérald Caussé Called as Newest Apostle

Elder Gérald Caussé, the first French member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, has served as the Church’s presiding bishop for the past decade. He was sustained as an apostle on Thursday, November 7, filling the vacancy left by President Russell M.

At 62 years old, Elder Caussé was ordained in a ceremony led by Oaks and other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Prior to this calling, he presided over the Church’s bishopric.

A native of Bordeaux, France, Elder Caussé is the fourth current apostle born outside the United States. He and his wife, Sister Valérie Caussé, have raised three children in several countries including France, Germany, and the United States.

“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ. He’s always been in the center of my life. And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That’s the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives.”

Recently, Elder Caussé addressed the annual Utah YSA conference in Salt Lake City. Throughout his leadership, he has focused on encouraging youth and young adults in diverse settings.

Summary: Elder Gérald Caussé, a dedicated leader with a lifelong testimony of Christ, has been called as the newest apostle, bringing international experience and a focus on youth ministry.
