Elder Gérald Caussé Called to Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Gérald Caussé, originally from France and the former Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was called and ordained as the newest member of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Thursday.

At age 62, Elder Caussé was ordained by President Dallin H. Oaks along with other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The Quorum is the Church’s second-highest governing body, serving as special witnesses of Christ and managing the administrative affairs of the global Church.

“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ,” Elder Caussé said Thursday. “And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ.”

Background and Service

Born in Bordeaux, France, in 1963, Elder Caussé moved to Paris at 19. He and his wife, Valérie Babin Caussé, are second-generation members of the Church. They married in the Bern Switzerland Temple in 1986 and have five children.

Elder Caussé served in the Presiding Bishopric from 2012 and was a General Authority Seventy between 2008 and 2012. Throughout his ministry, he has been recognized for emphasizing care for others and the vital role of youth in the Church.

Summary

Elder Caussé’s appointment to the Quorum strengthens the leadership with his deep testimony of Christ and longstanding dedication to service and youth engagement in the Church.
