Gérald Caussé, a senior leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was named the church’s newest apostle on Thursday. At 62 years old, he joins the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, an all-male governing council ranked just below the church president and his two top counselors.
Caussé is known for his deep involvement in the church’s global temple expansion during the previous president's term. He has extensive experience managing the church’s immense financial resources and helping oversee its many business interests.
Originally from France, Caussé brings vital financial expertise to the Quorum. Though the church does not publicly disclose its finances, filings from its investment firm, Ensign Peak Advisors Inc., reveal a portfolio valued at $58 billion.
“We really consider those funds as belonging to the Lord.” – Gérald Caussé, 2020
Gérald Caussé’s appointment strengthens the Quorum of the Twelve with his financial insight and experience managing the church’s significant temple-building efforts worldwide.
