The Houston Rockets are gaining momentum after two consecutive wins. After starting the season 0-2, they have begun to find their rhythm with victories over the Brooklyn Nets and the Toronto Raptors, ending the latter game with a 139–121 score.
The team is still adjusting its starting lineup around Kevin Durant, Alperen Sengun, and Amen Thompson. Jabari Smith Jr., who recorded 25 points, five rebounds, and five assists, has shown clear progress and appears to have secured his place among the starters.
With Fred VanVleet out for the season, head coach Ime Udoka continues to test various lineup options for the fifth spot. On opening night, Steven Adams was part of the starting five, forming one of the tallest lineups in NBA history. However, during the two recent wins, Houston opted for a smaller setup.
Josh Okogie replaced Adams in the lineup, taking a guard role that allowed players to return to their natural positions. Despite the team’s defense still needing improvement, the offense has thrived even with a defense-oriented player like Okogie.
“The 6-foot-4 guard has certainly proven to be an efficient option,” the report noted, referring to Okogie’s recent performances.
Against the Raptors, Okogie posted 10 points, one rebound, and two assists on 4-of-5 shooting in just 23 minutes. For the season so far, he is averaging 9.5 points and 1.8 rebounds, putting him in strong contention for a stable starting role.
Josh Okogie’s strong early-season performance positions him as a key candidate for Houston’s starting guard role, balancing defense with surprising offensive efficiency.
