San Antonio — This Halloween, Spurs forward Julian Champagnie swapped his basketball jersey for a Scooby-Doo costume during a surprise visit to Methodist Children’s Hospital. Joined by the Spurs' mascot, Coyote, Champagnie handed out candy, posed for photos, and spent time with young patients, brightening their day with festive cheer.
Each year, Methodist Children’s Hospital transforms for Halloween with themed decorations and staff costumes. This celebration includes reverse trick-or-treating, where hospital leadership visits patients' rooms to distribute treats. The event was made extra special this year by the presence of Champagnie and three Emergency Services Facility Dogs—Lady, Fresca, and Chanel—who dressed as a surgeon, witch, and spider respectively.
"I didn’t make a wish, but it felt like one. It was inspirational to see the actual walking dream. I didn’t think I was this special, but he made me feel like I was," said Jamal Magee, a patient.
"I appreciate the hospital for giving me this opportunity. For him to stop by and show some love meant so much to me. It’s hard to describe."
Julian Champagnie's visit brought heartfelt joy and unforgettable memories to the children and staff at Methodist Children’s Hospital this Halloween.
