New Zealand is set to sharpen their skills ahead of next year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup with a five-match T20I series at home against the West Indies.
Several important players are unavailable due to injuries:
Fast bowler Kyle Jamieson and spinner Ish Sodhi are included in the 14-player squad for the series beginning in Auckland. Former captain Kane Williamson is absent, having retired from T20 cricket. Mitchell Santner will lead the team as captain, as New Zealand prepares for the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka next year.
“It’s great to have five opportunities to take on a dangerous side like the West Indies,” said New Zealand coach Rob Walter.
This series will be New Zealand's final preparation before the T20 World Cup scheduled for early next year.
New Zealand will test combinations and leadership changes in a key T20 series against West Indies, despite several injury setbacks, as they gear up for the World Cup.
