Swiss startup FireDrone has secured €161,000 (CHF 150,000) from Venture Kick to advance its innovations in heat-resistant drones built for extreme conditions. The company, spun out from Empa, is developing technologies to improve safety during emergency response and industrial inspection operations.
Firefighters and industrial safety teams often face serious dangers when assessing high-temperature areas such as burning structures and furnaces. These hazards include toxic smoke, high heat, and unstable architecture, all of which hinder traditional drones from operating effectively.
FireDrone’s autonomous drones are engineered to endure temperatures of roughly 200°C. The design integrates thermal insulation and a cooling system to maintain functionality in hostile environments. This enables effective real-time hazard detection and situational awareness, improving operational safety and reducing downtime.
The company is focusing on two main sectors: industrial inspection in high-temperature environments and public safety operations. Its initial market includes industries like cement, steel, aluminium, waste-to-energy, fertiliser, and glass production, as well as first-responder missions where traditional drones cannot fly due to extreme heat or smoke.
“Our goal is to enhance safety and awareness in scenarios where people or conventional systems cannot operate,” the company stated.
FireDrone, a Swiss Empa spin-off, advances heat-proof drones with Venture Kick’s funding to boost safety and efficiency in industrial and emergency operations.
