European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald is reportedly "less than 50-50" to lead Team Europe at the 2027 Ryder Cup, according to a recent report.
Donald secured his legacy among Europe's finest captains after guiding the team to a tense 15-13 win over the United States at Bethpage Black in September. The hard-fought victory made the 47-year-old Englishman only the second European captain, after Tony Jacklin in 1985 and 1987, to achieve consecutive Ryder Cup wins.
Following the win, all 12 members of the European squad shouted
"Two more years!"as Donald held the trophy in New York.
Although Ryder Cup Europe officials have not publicly commented, it is understood that Donald has been given time to decide whether he wants to continue and lead the team at Adare Manor in Ireland. He is expected to make his decision by next April.
According to Telegraph Sport, insiders now believe Donald’s chances of staying on are "less than 50-50." The intense atmosphere and hostility encountered at Bethpage reportedly took a heavy toll, as several European players faced a barrage of verbal abuse from spectators.
"The behaviour needs to be talked about and needs to be addressed. I don't know how you rein it in, the odd people who shout."
Luke Donald faces uncertainty over his future as European Ryder Cup captain after reports suggest the intense experience at Bethpage left him hesitant about continuing in 2027.
