Claressa Shields has challenged Jake Paul's recent decision to call off the highly anticipated fight with Gervonta Davis, arguing that Paul's justification ignores the well-known issues surrounding Davis. Shields expressed skepticism about Paul's sudden moral position, highlighting that Davis' troubled past has been public knowledge for some time.
The boxing showdown was originally scheduled for November 14 in Miami, but the match disappeared from the calendar after new allegations against Davis emerged. The incident reportedly involved Davis allegedly assaulting a woman at Tootsie's Cabaret, a Miami Gardens strip club, on October 27.
“I didn’t want to give a woman abuser a platform,” Paul said in a statement, condemning Davis as “a walking human piece of garbage.”
The official complaint filed in Miami-Dade County accused Davis of choking and hitting a VIP cocktail waitress during the incident. Paul's response drew a range of reactions, with some supporting his decision while others questioned why this issue triggered him only now, considering Davis' legal troubles have been public for years.
On X Spaces, Shields voiced her doubts about Paul's timing and sincerity, remarking that his outrage seemed disingenuous given the long-standing awareness of Davis' problematic behavior.
“I have a few things to say about that,” Shields said, signaling her intention to address the controversy further.
The episode sparked widespread debate within the boxing community regarding accountability and the timing of moral judgments in sports.
