Representative Jasmine Crockett (D., Texas) is under scrutiny for allegedly hiding her ownership of stock in at least 25 companies from her congressional financial disclosures, according to a complaint obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
As a Texas state legislator in 2021, Crockett disclosed owning a substantial stock portfolio involving 28 companies across industries such as pharmaceuticals, fossil fuels, technology, automotive, and marijuana.
However, when filing her congressional financial disclosures for the same year, Crockett omitted 25 of those stock holdings. These included shares in companies that could benefit from legislation she introduced in Congress.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a nonpartisan watchdog group, submitted an ethics complaint to the Office of Congressional Conduct. FACT alleges that Crockett’s incomplete disclosures may violate the Ethics in Government Act.
“When Members of Congress fail to accurately and fully disclose their financial interests, it undermines the integrity of our government and erodes the public’s trust,”
— FACT Executive Director Kendra Arnold
Under the Ethics in Government Act, knowingly submitting false financial disclosures can result in criminal penalties, including prison time.
This complaint raises significant ethical and legal questions regarding Crockett’s transparency about her financial interests as a public official.
Jasmine Crockett’s undisclosed stock holdings could lead to serious consequences, highlighting the critical need for transparency in government officials’ financial reporting.
