Justin Rose Rules Himself Out of Europe's Next Ryder Cup Captaincy

Justin Rose’s management has confirmed to Today's Golfer that the English golfer plans to concentrate on playing in one more Ryder Cup before moving toward a leadership position. The selection for Europe’s next Ryder Cup captain now appears to be between two candidates.

At the Genesis Scottish Open in July, Rose expressed enthusiasm for the possibility of captaining the European team at Adare Manor in 2027, saying it would be a duty he would “give everything” to. However, his recent achievements have reshaped his priorities.

After winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship — the first of the PGA Tour’s season-ending playoffs — Rose earned an automatic place on Luke Donald’s team for Bethpage. His strong performance in New York, adding two points to reach a career total of 17.5 and placing him among the all-time top ten scorers, reignited his competitive drive.

“He does want to play in another one,” a spokesperson for Rose’s team confirmed, adding that he has not entered discussions with Ryder Cup Europe while taking a break following 20 tournaments in eight months.

According to journalist James Corrigan of The Telegraph, individuals close to Rose confirmed his wish to represent Europe for the eighth time. Despite speculation about a dual player-captain role, Rose dismissed the idea during his interview at Renaissance.

“I’m not sure that’s a role we should be entertaining really,” he said.
