Devin Booker fell short of his assist prop in his first matchup against the Clippers, recording seven assists on thirteen potential assists. The Suns suffered a 27-point loss, and Booker logged only 26 minutes in that game. Despite the limited time, he nearly reached the target again.
This season, the Clippers have been a favorable matchup for point-guard assist props. They have allowed the fourth-most assists to point guards and the fifth-most overall. Aside from Booker’s miss, all five other starting point guards who faced the Clippers have surpassed their assist props.
The Clippers rank among the league’s bottom nine teams when defending spot-up and off-screen plays, both of which typically generate assisted baskets. Booker missed his assist prop in his first three games but later exceeded it in three of his next five, with performances of 10, 9, and 13 assists. He has a strong chance of reaching the mark again tonight.
With James Harden and Kawhi Leonard sidelined, a new leader must emerge for the Clippers. The expectation is that John Collins could take on that role. Though Collins has yet to hit this prop in any game this season, tonight’s context is drastically different given the absence of two of the team’s highest-usage players.
“Somebody has to step up for the Clippers, and the guess here is that it is going to be John Collins tonight.”
Devin Booker’s assist prop and John Collins’ expanded role create strong betting opportunities in a reshaped Clippers–Suns matchup.
