Conservative Alberta MP Matt Jeneroux has announced his resignation from the House of Commons amid speculation that he might cross the floor to the governing Liberals. The Edmonton Riverbend representative informed Conservative Party Whip Chris Warkentin on Thursday about his decision, though the exact date of resignation remains unspecified.
“It was not an easy decision, but it is, I believe, the right one,” wrote Jeneroux in a letter obtained by National Post.
First elected in 2015, Jeneroux did not explain the reasons for his sudden departure. His letter showed respect for members on both sides of the aisle but made little reference to party leader Pierre Poilievre.
This resignation marks the second significant Conservative departure from caucus within three days, posing a challenge to Poilievre’s leadership ahead of the upcoming leadership review scheduled for January.
Political insiders suggest the events hint at deeper tensions behind the scenes on Parliament Hill.
Matt Jeneroux's unexpected resignation amid floor-crossing rumors signals growing instability in the Conservative caucus ahead of critical leadership challenges.
