Former India batter Robin Uthappa shared his views on Jasprit Bumrah's performance in the second T20I against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, noting that the star pacer loses rhythm when he overtries for wickets.
Speaking on Star Sports, Uthappa said Bumrah’s rare off day came from his eagerness to make an impact during India's defense of a modest total. India were bowled out for 125, and Australia comfortably chased it down in under 14 overs to lead the series 1–0.
“When we were bowling after scoring 125, the start was very important. If we had picked up two or three wickets in the first few overs, the game could have been closer because we have quality spinners in the middle overs. I felt we were probably trying too hard to pick up wickets. So we got a little wayward,” Uthappa said.
Although Bumrah claimed two wickets and gave away just 26 runs in his four overs, Uthappa suggested that the bowler wasn’t as composed as usual. He added that Bumrah’s rare lapses in control often come from his attempt to force breakthroughs early.
Robin Uthappa highlighted that Jasprit Bumrah sometimes loses his rhythm when pressing too hard for wickets, as seen during India’s second T20I at the MCG.
