In a strong performance on Wednesday, Macklin Celebrini contributed a goal and two assists as the San Jose Sharks overwhelmed the Seattle Kraken 6-1. The Sharks improved to 5-6-3, winning four of their last six games.
"Our penalty kill was really good tonight. So that helps," said Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky. "I thought our game got better as the game went on."
Seattle’s Ryan Winterton scored his first NHL goal, tying the game at 1-1 during the first period. The Kraken ended their five-game homestand with a 2-1-2 record.
Joey Daccord made 15 saves before Matt Murray replaced him in the third period, making three saves in relief.
"Disconnected in a bunch of different areas," said Kraken coach Lane Lambert. "Our structure wasn't good enough tonight."
Celebrini opened the scoring 1:08 into the first period, receiving a pass from Toffoli and shooting from the slot past Daccord’s blocker.
"I was just in the slot and just there to put it in," Celebrini said. "[Smith and Toffoli], they did a great job, getting on their D and forcing a turnover."
Winterton tied the game 1-1 at 16:30 in the first period, but the Sharks pulled away decisively afterward.
Author’s summary: The Sharks improved their recent form with a commanding 6-1 win over the Kraken, led by Celebrini's strong offensive contribution and Askarov's reliable goaltending.
