New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner has achieved a major milestone in T20 cricket by crossing the 250-wicket mark. The left-arm spinner reached this figure during the second T20I against the West Indies at Eden Park, Auckland, when he claimed his second wicket of the match.
Santner played a key role in New Zealand’s narrow three-run victory, finishing with figures of 3/31. His performance was instrumental alongside Ish Sodhi, who took 3/39. Santner dismissed Shai Hope, Roston Chase, and Romario Shepherd to turn the game in his team’s favor.
At one point, Santner reduced the West Indies to 93/6 in a chase of 208 by removing Hope and Chase. When Rovman Powell and Shepherd attempted a comeback, Santner struck again to dismiss Shepherd, leaving the visitors struggling at 155/7.
With these wickets, Santner now has 251 wickets in 247 T20 matches at an average of 23.97 and an economy rate of 7.14, according to ESPNcricinfo. His record includes three four-wicket hauls across T20 formats.
“As many as 128 of Santner’s T20 wickets have come for New Zealand (T20Is) at an average of 22.89 from 119 matches.”
