Carrie Bickmore has been awarded the title of 2026 Victorian Australian of the Year, recognizing her outstanding contributions to brain cancer research and advocacy. The honor was bestowed during an emotional ceremony held in Melbourne.
Bickmore’s dedication to brain cancer causes began after the loss of her husband, Greg Lange, to brain cancer in 2010. This personal tragedy propelled her into action, resulting in the creation of the Carrie's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer Foundation in 2015.
The Brain Cancer Centre aims to develop better treatment options and improve survival rates for brain cancer patients across Australia. This initiative addresses a critical need, as brain cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among children and young adults under 40 in the country.
