Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin, in partnership with the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and the Wisconsin Newspaper Association, is organizing a webinar about best practices for ethical media coverage involving crime victims.
The panel will be moderated by Nela Kalpic, State Director for Marsy’s Law Wisconsin.
The webinar will emphasize recommendations from the National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC) guide for reporters. It includes best practices on how media should interact with victims to protect their privacy and prevent unwanted attention, while also using their stories responsibly to benefit both reporters and survivors.
Additionally, the session will link these practices to Wisconsin’s constitutional amendment known as Marsy’s Law, which safeguards victims’ rights such as privacy, notification, and participation in the justice process.
"Marsy’s Law guarantees rights such as privacy, notice, and involvement in the justice process for crime victims."
This webinar aims to enhance the ethical standards of victim reporting in media throughout Wisconsin.
