The Rugby Football League has initiated an inquiry into Wakefield Trinity. The move follows St Helens filing a complaint about a contested bid for Harry Robertson.
In a statement, St Helens said it thinks Wakefield may have violated membership rules. The RFL said it will examine the evidence and determine if any violations occurred.
Both sides have been requested to submit documents. RFL officials will meet club reps in the coming days.
The findings could impact contracts as the league play progresses.
