Labour MP Shabana Mahmood has unveiled a proposal for a new refugee pathway inspired by Canada’s model.
It would permit corporations, academic institutions and neighbourhood groups to sponsor refugees, granting aid for homes and jobs.
The aim is to speed up integration and lighten the burden on the present system.
Mahmood says the route could welcome thousands of new arrivals, similar to the Ukrainian scheme used last year.
Critics warn the plan may burden public services.
The government has not announced a schedule.
