On July 6, Canada’s federal public servants commenced working in workplaces five days a week. The rule started without a clear plan for how to make it happen. Unions said offices lack sufficient space and equipment for everyone to return. They also said the federal authorities gave no evidence that working in offices additional days makes things more effective for the public.
The federal government argued the changes will benefit small businesses get additional government contracts. Public service workers and media reporters still ask if offices are ready for so many people.
